Dreams, Careers and Relationships

Good Afternoon lovely people!

This is a bit of a random blog post, but something inspired me to write it. I follow the forever inspirational lady that is Katie Piper and she posted a photo on her Instagram, that really got me thinking.

I have never heard of this quote before or even realised Lady Gaga wrote it. But this quote has got me thinking and thinking about my own life.

I was definitely the girl when i was younger, to want a boyfriend rather than do well at school or even think about want i wanted to be when i was older. If someone 'loved' me that was more than enough for me. I believe this all steamed from when my parents split up and felt the need to have someone around the that cared and loved me (even though of course my parents did as well, at the time i wasn't feeling it so much).

I have had enough bad relationships to write a book about, the disastrous dates, the awkward moments and the darn right ugly. But because of that my standards are set so very high and it will take someone very special for me to let them be a part of my life. This is because i now know what i do not want in a relationship.

I once believed being in a relationship was the only way i could be happy - yes, i actually believed that. In fact reflecting back, it was the relationship that made me unhappy.
Over the past four or five years i have started to really get my life and career back and think what and where i want to take my life. I am now about to go into the third year of my degree, and i honestly could not be any happier. This is probably the happiest i have been in my life so far. Don't get me wrong, there are times where i really want that special connection with someone. But i want that someone to be the right someone, as there is no point being in a relationship if you are just going to argue all the time, because honestly, whats the point in that?

My point of this much rambled blog post is that you do not need a man/woman to make you happy. I believe a happy relationship also comes from if both the people in the relationship have their own lives, and their own careers so they aren't together constantly and joined at the hip! As in my opinion that only leads to disaster and arguments.

It's also a good one to remember that someone who truly loves or cares about you will never ask you to cancel your plans with your friends or family to be with them. They should respect your life and the people in it, because those people have been there long before the new boyfriend/girlfriend and they will be there a long time afterwards.

Relationships come and go but a career is a life time thing, work hard for it and everything else will fall into place.

  1. This was such a meaningful post to read Katie, and a really thought-provking piece of writing <3

You sound like such a fab person, and good for you for focusing on you, your career and most important of all, your happiness. I'm sure you will find the right person one day, and it'll be the right time because you were sensible enough to wait :) Too many people just settle for 'anyone' these days and I think that's a horrible way to live! You definitely have the right attitude xo

    1. This was such a lovely comment for you to write! It brought a smile to my face all day. I totally agree, and it often ends in disaster and unneeded heartbreak.
Thank you so much again, you are so lovely! :)
